The Grand Palace is Bangkok's major landmark and was built at the same time as the city of Bangkok in 1782-1783 to house the sovereign's living quarters, many of the principal government offices and the precincts of the Royal Chapel of the Emerald Buddha. On special occasions, the Grand Palace is the venue of important religious ceremonies, most of which are presided over by His Majesty the King or leading members of the Royal Family. State functions are also held in a special hall designated for formal receptions. Only visitors in proper attire are allowed entry. No shorts are permitted and all shoes must be removed before entering the temple proper.

The temple is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok. Housing the largest reclining Buddha and the largest collection of the Buddha images in Thailand

Shopping downtown ;  Siam Paragon, Central World, MBK shopping mall

We proceed on to downtown for shopping. Thailand is a paradise for shoppers. Regular visitors to Asia know that in many ways, Bangkok beats Hongkong and Singapore when it comes to handicrafts, textiles, gems, jewelry, art and antiques. Nowhere else will you find a unique selection of goods of high quality and reasonable prices.

This gracious old Thai home on the banks of the Chao Phaya River was formerly the home of Khun Ying Supatra Singholaga, who in addition to being a successful business lady was a leading advocate of women’s right in Thai society.
